All children who attend St. Peter Catholic Preschool must be fully potty trained. Children may not wear diapers or pull-ups to school. Staff members are not allowed to help with wiping.
If a child has more than two accidents in a day, a parent/guardian must come to pick them up. If accidents become a regular occurrence (more than 3 accidents in a week), we will hold the spot for two weeks free of charge, but the child will not be able to attend school until they are fully trained.* Pick-up after school accidents may be necessary and at the discretion of staff.
*This excludes the first two weeks of school as we understand this is a time of big transitions.
Potty Trained Means the Child:
Is wearing underwear–no pull ups allowed
Can TELL the adult they have to go potty BEFORE they have to go. The must be able to say the words, "I have to go potty" BEFORE they have to go
Can pull down their underwear and pants and get them back up without assistance
Can wipe themselves after using the toilet "INCLUDING BMS"
Can get off the potty by themselves. We do not have stools.
Can flush the toilet by themselves
Can wash and dry hands
Can postpone going if they must wait for someone who is in the bathroom or if we are outside/away from the bathroom
Can tell staff if they urgently need to go vs. can wait
Separation Anxiety
For some, this will be the first time your child has separated from you for any length of time. This may be stressful for you and your child. Even some returning students may have a little anxiety and some separation issues for a short time. Try to establish a routine of saying goodbye with your child. Making it fairly quickly and not drawing it out will make it easier for both you and your child. If you are having a problem, please alert your teacher to help. If there are tears when you leave, they usually clear up quickly. We hope to make the transitions and separation as easy as possible for both of you.
